Frequently Asked Questions
The “Sleep at Everest Base Camp trek” is unique in the sense that trekkers will get a wonderful opportunity to spend a couple of nights in the base camp. Generally, the trip is no different than the regular EBC trek, except for the two nights where trekkers get to sleep under the starlit sky at the base camp. Also, they will get an opportunity to walk up to the Khumbu Icefall during the trip.
You can absolutely accomplish this trek even if you do not have previous experience of trekking, but you need to contact us on time for this. We need to know about your health history and your daily lifestyle so that we can help you prepare for this trek. Being moderately fit, mentally robust and able to enjoy walking are the prerequisites for achieving a successful trip in the Himalayas. We strongly recommend you to undertake certain exercises and short day hikes for preparing yourself for the trip, at least 3 months before the actual trip begins. The intensity of your fitness will help you find the experience of trekking in the Everest region more enjoyable.
You will be led by our highly experienced and dedicated Everest trek leaders, who have years of experience visiting the Everest base camp multiple times. All our guides are full-time employees, not freelancers, and are local experts fluent in English. They possess extensive knowledge of the mountain, its people, culture, health, hygiene, and, most importantly, your safety.
Undoubtedly, you will be spending two nights, actually at the base camp itself confronting several of the mightiest peaks in the world. The day you arrive to the base camp from Gorak Shep will be your first night at the base camp where you will sleep on a twin-shared tented accommodation. The next day, you will get an opportunity to hike up to the Khumbu icefall, almost half the way to the Lhotse Face and return to the base camp to sleep for yet another night. During this time, you will get a chance to witness the lives of climbers and the Sherpa guides at the base camp very closely. During the two-night stay at the base camp, our expedition kitchen staff will prepare fresh meals for you. We sincerely request you to respect other climbers and the expedition guides’ privacy and also honor their wishes if they hold back from mingling. Also, make sure that you do not visit the camping sites of other climbers at the base camp and remain at your designated camps only.
There will be a welcome dinner for you on arrival in Kathmandu the day before you leave for the mountains. On the trek, you will get to enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well as the more common international cuisine comprising Tibetan, Continental, Indian and Italian dishes. You will eat your breakfast and dinner at the teahouse or a lodge menu where you will spend the night. Likewise, lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. There are no teahouses or lodges at the Everest Base Camp, so when you are there, your meals will be prepared by our very own cook. Please note that all meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be made available to you in Kathmandu. After completing your trip and when you reach Kathmandu, Vi Glaciers will organize a farewell dinner for you to celebrate the auspicious victory of your accomplishment.
The day you arrive in Kathmandu, you will stay in Hotel Yatri Suites & Spa or similar. After you leave for the mountains, you will sleep at comfortable teahouses or lodges on the trek until you reach the Everest Base camp. Since there are no teahouses or lodges at the base camp, you will be sleeping at comfortable twin-shared tents under the starlit sky. If you do not wish to share a room, either at your hotel in Kathmandu, or teahouses on the trail and at the tent in base camp, then a single supplement charge will fetch you a single room throughout. Please note that it is quite difficult to find a single room, especially at higher altitudes, and during peak seasons unless you book your trip with us well ahead of time. Rooms at teahouses at lower elevations come with attached washrooms, but at some places teahouses may only have shared washing and toilet facilities.
